Amazon.com Product Description Designed for teen girls between 52 and 62 inches tall, the Mongoose Montana girl's mountain bike is a great choice for both trail and street riding. The bike is outfitted with a handcrafted, high-tensile-strength aluminum frame that holds up durably to rough handling. The index 21-speed SRAM MRX shifters, meanwhile, provide plenty of control whether you're on flat or hilly terrain. Finally, the bike's extra-wide 1.95-inch tires roll smoothly over pavement, grass, or dirt. Other features include front and rear linear pull brakes, an adjustable quick-release seat, a three-piece ATB crank, 24-inch wheels with alloy frames, and a rust-resistant powder coating. The Montana carries a one-year warranty.

Nice Bike for the Budget-Minded Rider! June 28, 2010 Paul S. Remington (Rochester, NY USA) I purchased the twenty-six inch version of this bike for my wife's birthday last year so we could ride together. She's a very small, tiny-boned woman of five-feet tall. We went from shop to shop and tried many different bikes, some very expensive, others ridiculously inexpensive. This bike really stood out amongst the others because of fit, features, and value.
A few comments based on our experience.
First, you get what you pay for. If you're looking for a bike you can beat on and ride excessively, you might want to look for a higher-quality, more expensive brand. This is a very good bike for the casual rider. When assembled properly, it rides very well on or off the road and is very comfortable for long periods of time. If you're a more serious rider, you'll probably want to upgrade the brakes or gears or look towards a different bike altogether. While the brakes and gears work fine, they aren't the highest quality. Also, the bike is a tad heavy, but for the price, it's fine.
Second, if you have no experience assembling bikes, or if you've only assembled a bike a few times, plunk down $25 to $40 and have a professional assemble it properly. There are alignment issues that can make or break a successful and enjoyable final assembly. I think a lot of the comments from others about wobbly wheels and sticky brakes are probably because attention wasn't paid towards proper assembly and alignment. We had our bike professionally assembled and it's been just fine! No wobbly wheels and no sticky brakes.
There's nothing wrong with this bike in its class. It's not designed to be the top of its class, but when looked at in terms of value, it's a fine bike that should last for many years, if properly maintained.
We're happy with the purchase for different reasons. For her, she's happy to have a bike. For me, it's nice to have my best gal by my side once again! :-)
Mongoose quality way way way down June 4, 2010 Eastern Guru (USA) I ordered the bike for my daughter for her birthday. The brand name and the price were main factors for me to choose this bike. I received the bike a day ahead of schedule - Thanks to Amazon; they had always been great about what they promise. The next day on her birthday I went home early and I spent about two hours putting the bike together and understandably making few adjustments i.e. number on the twister gear corresponding to the right gear on the sprocket, brakes etc. Great looking bike. Took it out for a test ride, heard little squeaky noises - no big deal needs few fine adjustments, I thought. I gave it to my daughter to try it out. She went around and was coming back towards me when the bike stopped suddenly with a jerk. Luckily she was riding real slowly. Inspecting it I found that portion of the tire had come off of the rim creating a bulge. I deflated the tire immediately, squeeze the tire in the rim inflated it to 55 psi again (recommendation printed on the tire - 40 to 65 psi), took it for test ride and it happened again and again and again. Whether the rim size is inaccurate or the tire, I really don't care, but Mongoose should check their quality more closely, especially when they make stuff for kids and where a failure could cause serious injury. I gave it two stars since this could be one in a thousand, but I think safety should not be compromised for price or anything else. I end up buying her a "Schwinn" from "Target" since I could not stand the look of disappointment on her face. All in all I'm not sure I'd buy another Mongoose again.
Good toy to grow with. January 8, 2010 Joseph Eaton III (Vallejo, California) The younger childs first bike so I'm sure its going to take alot of punishment. It's built tough and she loves the color(hard to find to find lt blue). Now all the neighborhood kids want one. Really good buy, absolutly no regrets.
OK bike November 17, 2009 G.C. (Wayne, NJ USA) I bought this bike for my daughter, and it's just ok. The seat is really hard, but I guess you get used to that (or you can replace it). And also, it a little heavy.
Mongoose Montana Girl's Bike 24" October 28, 2009 Ronald D. Payne (Charlotte, NC USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The bike was shipped very quickly. Easy to assemble, just add front wheel, seat, and handle bars. Bike needed to have brakes adjusted and gears. Read the owners manual and go on You Tube to watch the videos of the adjustments. It makes the adjustments a breeze. Bike is nice and light.
